Stellenrust is a large family estate, with some 200 hectares under vine, spread equally between holdings on the Helderberg slopes close to Waterford, and Bottelary Hills. Brilliant winemaker Tertius Boshoff creates value wines across the board, from great old-vine Chenin and Cinsaut to easydrinking reds from noble cultivars. This Cabernet Sauvignon has a ruby red colour of medium depth, and an aroma of poached cherry – fresh and appealing.
The flavour is classic Helderberg Cabernet, almost old fashioned in its elegance ( none of that show stopping burliness here ). Deep blackcurrant & fresh cherry fruit, hint of Autumn leaves and forest floor. It has medium body, tight but silky tannins, and a delightfully dry finish. A great buy at the price. Serve with thinly sliced beef escallopes in a white wine and mushroom sauce.
