Region: Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
“The uneven ripening of the low-yielding Vrede Chardonnay vineyard kept us on our toes, with picking starting on 20 February and ending only on 9 March. A warmer February combined with very low yields and small berries contributed to a more opulent but stylish 2018, creating a vibrant Chardonnay with citrus and white pear aromas, minerality and length.”
Vrede Chardonnay – or Peace Chardonnay – hails from a northeast-facing slope in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley with low-vigour, stony, clay-rich Bokkeveld shale soil.
An elegant example with crisp fruit, good length and minerality – these are characteristic of the site’s low-vigour, stony, clay-rich soil.” – Hannes Storm
