Daniël de Waal’s boutique winery, Super Single Vineyards, is tucked away in a quiet valley of Stellenboschkloof on Canettevallei – an old wine and lavender family farm dating back to 1682.
Super Single Vineyards focuses on the production of handcrafted wines from specially selected single vineyards throughout the Western Cape. The name Pella means ‘place of gathering’ which refers to the union of terroir and vines. Pella wines are produced from vineyards in the Coastal Region.
The name of this single vineyard originates from the south-facing hill it is planted on (‘granite hill/hump’ from Afrikaans). The vines thrive in the granite soil which also contains a fair amount of clay. Deeper down in the subsoil, there is a layer of coffee stone agglomerates which provide excellent drainage for the vineyard.

Tasting note:
A perfumed wine with concentrated aromas of red, blackberries follow through onto a rich, highly extracted palate with refined tannins, ending in a lengthy finish. – Winemaker
“From a south-facing vineyard on red granite soils. Matured for 18 months in French oak, 40% new. Cassis, some leafiness, earth, pencil shavings and oak spice on the nose while the palate is medium bodied with good fruit definition, fresh acidity and tannins that are resolving nicely. It’s intensely flavoured but not weighty or sweet – well balanced, elegant and true to the district.” – CE
