Orothamnus Zeyheri is a rare mountain rose of the fynbos species that grows only on Thamnus Wines and the nearby nature reserve. This remote terroir in the Overberg is 250m above sea level and 20km from the world-famous Walker Bay. Warm summers and cool winters combined with old Cape soils, produce particularly expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, delivering elegance, structure and crystalline fruit. With a history of mixed farming back to the 17th century, today this land raises sheep alongside the vineyards, an olive grove and wheat fields.
P.J. Geyer joined Thamnus Wines as Winemaker and Viticulturist in 2019. He quickly recognized the incredible potential locked up in the terroir and history of the farm. In 2021 P.J. started managing the sheep farming and learning about the synergies of farming a polyculture. They are delighted to release the maiden 2021 vintage of Thamnus Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with a focus on sustainable farming and showcasing the Terroir of this unique region.
