The 715-hectare Tierhoek farm, located on the peaks of the Piekenierskloof Mountain, was established in 1886. It is one of the oldest surviving, original Sandveld farms on the West Coast of Africa with some of the buildings on the farm being restored back into their original Sandveld style by current owners, Tony and Shelly Sandell. The farm experiences cold, rainy winters and long, warm summers that are cooled down by afternoon Atlantic breezes – ideal climate conditions for vineyards. Tierhoek is also part of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI) and focuses on sustainable wine production.
