Tokara is a family-owned vineyard and derives its name from the founders’ children, Thomas and Kara. Tokara rests on the Stellenbosch side of the Banghoek Valley, where the farm forms the watershed between two beautiful valleys on the foothills of the majestic Simonsberg. The Tokara Highlands vineyard lies south of Stellenbosch in Elgin, a cool-climate area atop Sir Lowry’s Pass. Soils are predominantly Table Mountain sandstone which imparts an ethereal scent to their Sauvignon Blanc and Cap Classique sparkling wine.
At Tokara, the focus is on two of the greatest grape varieties in the world – Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, reflected in their three ranges: Tokara Premium Collection, a fusion from various sites; Tokara Reserve Collection, picked from a single vineyard; and Tokara Directors Reserve, produced from the best and most expressive parcels on the highest slopes of Tokara’s Stellenbosch property.
This Reserve Collection Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes from top performing blocks grown on Tokara’s Highlands farm. Each block is chosen for their exquisite flavour and aromatic profile. Only the free run juice from the best blocks is used. After fermentation the wine is left on the lees for five months with regular lees stirring, for enhanced texture and mouthfeel.
