Torero and Pasiphaë Syrah 2022

The Torero Wine Co. project came about through two great friendships and a relentless and all-consuming passion surrounding wine. Ian Naudé serves as the proverbial spark and Angus Paul as the fuel. The first vintage began in 2021 with only Carignan and grew into the ternary of Carignan, Syrah, and Grenache. They work with three different farms and three different vineyards, two of which lie planted in Wellington, one on the Groenberg and the other at the foot of the Limietberg. One lies planted on the Polkadraai Hills in Stellenbosch.
From the Stellenbosch Syrah vineyard located on Karibib, known for producing pure, honest and complex Syrah comes their latest release – Pasiphaë. The vineyard sits at the top of Karibib against a strip of fynbos, 300m above sea level. The vines lie in coarse decomposed Polkadraai granite, high in quartz silicate which makes for fast draining soils and concentrated grapes.
100% Syrah, 100% whole bunch, foot trod and gently extracted. Ten months in 500L French oak barrels and bottled in December 2022.
