After graduating from Stellenbosch University with a BSc in Viticulture and Oenology, Trizanne Barnard worked multiple vintages in Australia, France and Portugal. In 2008 she started her own brand – Trizanne Signature Wines. Since her first vintage, Trizanne was intrigued by two quite diverse South African wine regions, namely Elim with the cooler temperature vineyards for Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, contrasted with the concentrated reds of the warmer, drier Swartland. Since then she has grown her wine portfolio, specifically focusing on her affinity for the cooler climates of South Africa’s wine regions. Grapes for her Seascape Range, are sourced from vineyards from Elim, Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, Sondagskloof and Benede-Duivenshokrivier. Each wine has been carefully crafted with passion and expertise, capturing the distinct characteristics of its respective ward and Trizanne’s expression as winemaker. These new releases offer a glimpse into the Cape South Coast and are a true reflection of the beauty and diversity found in this area. The label is a creative extension of what you can expect in the bottle.
Grapes for this wine were sourced from the incredible ward of Lower Duivenshokriver, situated between Riversdale, Vermaaklikheid and Heidelberg, within the Cape South Coast region. Limestone soils, cool mean ripening temperatures and only 10km from the ocean creates a beautiful, mineral Chardonnay.
Trizanne Signature Wines Benede Duiwenhoksrivier Chardonnay 2023
R495.00
Region: Cape South Coast
Tasting notes:
“A superbly elegant Chardonnay, layered with citrus and apple notes with a stealy minerality creating that perfect tension in the wine. Beautifully balanced natural acidity gives this wine ample longevity and punch. Delicate yet gravitas. A wine that evolves slowly yet elegantly over time in the bottle.” – Winemaker
“Grapes harvested three weeks earlier than usual and the wine did not go through malolactic fermentation. Matured for 10 months in barrel, 20% new. A top note of orchard blossom before pear and lime, fresh nuts and a brush of vanilla. The palate is light-bodied but not attenuated (alcohol is 12.7% and RS is 4g/l) – well-delineated fruit, fresh acidity and a pithy finish.” – CE
