Twee Jonge Gezellen is one of the oldest farms in the Western Cape; records show our farm dates back to the early 1700s. By the late 1700s the first grapes for winemaking were rooted in the ground. Since then Twee Jonge Gezellen has been a pioneer in the South African wine industry, from being the first winery in the country to make use of cold fermentation as well as building one of the first underground cellars in Africa. In celebration of this rich winemaking history, enter the new era for Twee Jonge Gezellen with a range of heritage wines, consisting of a premium red and white. In order to harness the unique conditions of our farm’s rocky slopes, viticultural consultant Rosa Kruger was brought on board. She identified the best sites and varieties to plant in the stony soils, which are suited to the particular climatic conditions of this mountainous corner of the Tulbagh Wine Region. Grenache Noir has been planted for the red wine, while Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc and Piquepoul have taken root for the future white blend.
Twee Jonge Gezellen Grenache 2019
R408.00
Region: Tulbagh
Tasting note:
Generous aromatics of black cherries interlaced with the perfume of violets and new leather; an undercurrent of crushed flint. A distinct note of wild rosemary, dark green and savoury, draws you to its rugged dryland bushvine site. The black cherries continue on the palate, with dark plum and cassis nuance, the fruit is concentrated and pure from the long ripening period of the 2019 vintage. On the back palate, ripe raspberries, and a tail of ground spice. All this intensity of fruit is wrapped in succulent tannins; lifted by a refreshing line of cool acidity, which tapers into the long, dry finish.
