Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning ‘situated far away’), has been under the ownership of some of the world’s great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate.
Nestled between the Helderberg and Hottentots Holland Mountains, with views of Cape Town, Table Mountain, and False Bay, this fertile valley, protected by granite cliffs, enjoys a mild climate of long warm days that bring the fruit to full ripeness and cooling afternoon ocean breezes that lengthen the growing season, thus intensifying the depth of fruit flavour in the grapes. Favoured with twenty-one soil types Vergelegen is rich ground for cultivating the breadth of noble varietals and clones essential for crafting the Estate’s brilliant wines.
Composition: Chardonnay 100%. The grapes were hand harvested on 18 January to 1 February 2017, from both Korhaan and Slanghoek vineyards. The Korhaan vineyard was planted in 1988, and Slanghoek in 2006.
