Region: Corleone, NE Sicily
In 2002, the Vivera family finally realized their dream to purchase an estate in the Martinella district of Mount Etna, on the North Eastern side of the volcano, and build a winery there. The Viveras are a classic example of “all things Sicilian,” with mother Armida coming from Corleone in Palermo, father Antonino hailing from Chiaramonte Gulfi in Ragusa, and their three children, Omar, Eugenio, and Loredana born and raised in Catania. The whole family is involved in the winery.
A blend of 46% Chardonnay, 27% Catarratto and 27% Insolia, all grown organically in the Corleone region. The soils are clay and calcareous and the vineyards are at 400m altitude. Mild climate typified by hot and windy summer and good differences in temperature between day and night. Straw-yellow colour with golden hue; fragrances of pear, citrus and tropical fruits and notes of flowers. Altrove is crisp, mineral and has a long finish.
Mother Amida ( who hails from Corleone originally ) suggests that you pair this wine with: Vegetable omelette, pasta with sword fish aubergine and mint, mussels au gratin…………..
CURIOSITY: Altrove means “in another place”, like the landscape of Corleone, where the vineyards are, giving the sensation of being in another place, a journey of Nature, a journey for your soul that feels like home
