In 2002, the Vivera family finally realized their dream to purchase an estate in the Martinella district of Mount Etna, on the North Eastern side of the volcano, and build a winery there. The Viveras are a classic example of “all things Sicilian,” with mother Armida coming from Corleone in Palermo, father Antonino hailing from Chiaramonte Gulfi in Ragusa, and their three children, Omar, Eugenio, and Loredana born and raised in Catania. The whole family is involved in the winery.

HARVEST: Meticulous grape selection, hand picked Nerello Cappuccio and of Nerello Mascalese the last week of September
PRODUCTION TECHNIQUE: The grapes are carefully selected and gently harvested by hand. After fermentation of the grapes at controlled temperatures of 79°-84°F for 10 days, the wine is racked and matures in 225 litre barriques of French used oak for 36 months. Prior to its release, Martinella is refined in bottle for an additional 12 months.

DESCRIPTION: Martinella is ruby red wine with a spicy and fruity bouquet with balsamic fragrances, sulphurous and mineral notes, savoury and fresh taste with a very long finish.

CURIOSITY: Martinella, in Sicilian dialect “A’ Martinedda” , is the name of the vineyard and the name of our first sight love: the place that inspired our family to use all our energy in the fascinating world of wine
