Jeremy and Leigh Ord’s acclaimed estate – Waterford, lies in the Blaauwklippen Valley at the foot of the Helderberg Mountain – a prime location where there is influence both from Stellenbosch’s warmer climate and the cold Atlantic a few kilometres away. The farm’s diverse plantings are supplemented by vines in Elgin, amongst others. The estate has been operating since 1998. The name Waterford is a combination of the Ord surname as well as the waterfalls from the mountains that surround the estate (WATERF + ORD). The idea was given by the oldest daughter, Ashleigh Ord. Only half of the total 120 hectares of land is planted with vines in order to preserve and protect the natural fauna and flora there.
The Waterford Antigo takes its name from the colour of the soils in which the specific Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard, that makes up majority of the blend, is planted.
Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon (79%), Merlot (17%) and Cabernet Franc (4%).
Ageing: Twenty months in French oak barrels, 225L and 300L.
