Waterford Estate is situated in the Blaauwklippen Valley, in the Stellenbosch region. It is owned by the Ord Family and has been developed by Kevin Arnold, cellar master and managing partner. Only half of the total 120 hectares of the land is planted with vines in order to preserve and protect the natural fauna and flora there.
At Waterford several practices have been implemented to encourage sustainability. including various systems and procedures to save water, conserve the terrain. The Estate is committed to a globally recognized sustainability initiative, known as The Porto Protocol and holds an Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) certificate for its environmentally friendly production methods.
Cabernet Sauvignon is the most suited varietal to Waterford Estate soils, making up 35% of the total plantings. Grapes are planted predominantly on sandstone-rich soils with an upper loam layer and underlying white clay to trap moisture. Maturation of this 100% Cabernet took place in 36% new, 225 litre French oak barrels
