Tasting note:

The nose shows beautiful layers of candied citrus, lime and lemon, ripe pear, quince, fresh peach and honeysuckle. The palate is soft and elegant with flavours of star fruit, honeydew melons and lime, and finishes with a salty minerality and a touch of nuttiness.

Established in 1777, Welgegund has a historic pedigree. The first title deed for this beautiful farm was registered in favour of a Roelof van der Merwe in 1781 and constituted 3 morgen of land in what was then known as the the Wagenmaker’s Vallei, a reference to the wagon building industry that had developed in this valley. This 3 morgen farm was originally called Welgegunt, a Dutch word meaning ‘well bestowed’.

Welgegund Heritage Wine Farm is a family owned, boutique wine farm located just outside Wellington in the Blouvlei and on the slopes of the Hawequa mountains. Just off the road known as The Horseshoe, the farm lies peacefully at the end of a quiet, tree-lined cul-de-sac, offering a sense of seclusion and magnificent views of the dramatic mountain peaks bordering it.
