Wolf & Woman Wines is a boutique winery founded in 2019 by Jolandie Fouché, a Swartland native deeply connected to the region’s vineyards and soils. Her mission is to craft wines that authentically express the unique terroirs of the Swartland, Voor-Paardeberg, and Piekenierskloof, regions known for their old vines and diverse soils, including schist, granite, and iron-rich earth.
Jolandie, who grew up roaming local vineyards, pursued winemaking studies at Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute and honed her craft through harvests in Australia and California. Drawing inspiration from the book Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, she embraces the “wild woman” ethos—creative, passionate, and instinctive—in her winemaking approach.
At Wolf & Woman Wines, the focus is on minimal intervention winemaking. Grapes are hand-harvested from sustainably farmed, dryland vineyards. Fermentation occurs naturally using indigenous yeasts, with only a touch of sulfur added. Wines are matured in neutral oak barrels and concrete vessels to enhance their natural expression.
The winery produces a range of wines, including Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Rosé, Syrah, and Pinotage. Notably, their Chenin Blanc has received acclaim from wine critics such as Tim Atkin and Jancis Robinson.
With an annual production of approximately 10,500 bottles, Wolf & Woman Wines offers a unique and expressive glimpse into the Swartland’s terroir through the lens of a passionate and visionary winemaker.
